College of Engineering Technical Compliance Lead – details

Position Summary:

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) provides technology services to the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We are a small team that is growing to meet new opportunities to improve our technology support models and enable the mission of the college. We are looking for a new team member that is experienced in translating terms and conditions of agreements into actionable process, documentation, and technical implementation. Under the general supervision of the Director of CAE, this position will be expected to review research, software, and similar agreements and recommend strategies to be in compliance with regulations and policies.

Principal duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain all core compliance procedures informing academic, research, and operational activities
  • Steward compliance processes for sponsor reviews and policy compliance audits
  • Inform technology control plans to address policy and sponsor expectations
  • Oversee procurement reviews and match license to purpose, particularly with relation to software

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Consideration will be given to candidates with a degree in a scientific field or other area working with science researchers
  • Minimum of two years of working with research and service agreements, software licenses, or similar
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal regulations and policies as they pertain to academic, research, instruction, and business operations
  • Experience translating language from research, software, and similar agreements into technical requirements
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity risk management frameworks, such as NIST and CMMC
  • Skillful communicator (e.g., writing reports, preparing messages for leadership and customers, presentations, group facilitation)
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across organizational boundaries and building relationships
  • Ability to analyze complex compliance situations and identify workable, risk- based solutions with stakeholders
  • Ability to design and implement team change, work-flows, and process improvements

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education IT and research administration
  • Experience using risk management frameworks to address NIST, ITAR, HIPAA, CMMC, PCI, or similar
  • Experience using or understanding of the capability of endpoint management tools
  • Experience with risk assessment capabilities of tools such as OneTrust
  • Experience with incident/problem tracking systems and other tools to document technical and process implementations
