College of Engineering Linux Desktop Administrator position

The College of Engineering at UW-Madison is eager to add a growth-minded Linux systems administrator supporting instruction and research in the complex and rewarding environment of a world-class research University.

The Team

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) is the primary team supporting information technology in the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We are responsible for college-wide networks and systems that support all teaching, learning, research, and outreach for the college.

Your role

We are adding staff to our system administration and infrastructure team in the UW-Madison College of Engineering (CoE) to provide advanced support for Linux desktops that enable instruction and research. This position will be responsible for the desktop in our instructional labs and the tooling used by user support folks to deploy desktops in research areas.

What you can do

We need you to learn technical and contextual information and apply it to supporting the instruction, research, and outreach missions of the College of Engineering. Responsibilities will include Linux administration of desktop systems, software deployment, associated storage and infrastructure management, monitoring and automation tools, and related networking protocols. We are very versed in automation, so you’ll be expected to setup, configure, patch, modify 100s of systems at a time.
