Dear College of Engineering Students, Faculty, and Staff-
As part of UW–Madison’s effort to strengthen account security, changes are coming to UW-Madison’s Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) with Duo on June 2, 2025. These updates will also affect how you access your College of Engineering (CAE) account.
What you need to know about the change:
- Duo Verified Push: After the change, you will enter a 3-digit code from your computer screen into your Duo app to approve logins.
- Extended “Remember Me”: The MFA prompt will appear once every 7 days (instead of every 12 hours) when using the same browser/device.
- Improved Passcodes: Duo app-generated passcodes will refresh every 30 seconds for increased security.
What you need to do before the change:
- Update your Duo Mobile app to ensure you’re using the latest version. Most apps auto-update reliably, but you may want to visit the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store to verify that you have the latest version prior to June 2.
- Familiarize yourself with how the new verified push process will work.
The college encourages everyone to make updates before the June rollout to avoid disruptions accessing college resources, including remote lab access, file storage, and College of Engineering CAE-managed accounts. For a simple overview of the change, see https://kb.wisc.edu/cae/151020.
If you have any questions or need help updating your Duo settings for your College of Engineering CAE-managed account, please contact the CAE Help Desk at helpdesk@cae.wisc.edu.
