CAE Course Software Requests

There are many different software packages used for instruction within the College of Engineering. Over 100 programs are available on CAE lab workstations, with the aim of furthering academic participation and success. CAE strives to put every requested piece of software on our systems that we can.

Some of the considerations that may interfere with this are licensing parameters and limitations, and the ability to install the software on lab workstations. Installation on CAE lab workstations is considerably more complicated than installation on a single desktop computer, because of factors like conflicts with other software, balancing necessary permissions and security settings, and licensing over a network. CAE will do everything we can to get software properly installed and running, but occasionally this is not possible.

Teaching and Learning Services at Wendt Commons will contact all course instructors for a given semester, well in advance of the beginning of instruction, with a list of software previously used for the course. Each instructor has the opportunity at this time to review the list and request changes, updates, or additions. It is important to respond to this by the deadline given, for the best chance that requested changes will be ready for the start of the semester. Please see the documents listed below for more information on timelines and on versions.

This process gives CAE the best chance to ensure that we have time to complete all necessary steps. We will remain in contact with the requesting instructors to obtain any necessary configuration information, report any problems, and let you know when the software is ready for testing. Requests that come after the deadline will be acted on when others have been completed, and we can not guarantee that late requests will be completed by the beginning of the semester.
