Announcement

CAE is developing a new software site to replace the current software pages. Take a look and give us your feedback.

CAE provides access to a large number of industrial engineering software packages to all the academic departments in the College of Engineering. Software on Windows, Sun Solaris/UNIX, and Linux operating systems are available for use by anyone with a CAE account. Not only does CAE provide Engineering software, we also provide Productivity, Internet, Programming, and many general Utility software packages. By providing CAE users with over 200 software titles, users have the ability and resources to compute productively as engineers.

Software Listings:

Learn how to [addapplications] to the Windows Start Menu on CAE Lab computers and the CAE Remote Desktop.

Access CAE software from outside the computing labs

All CAE software can be accessed from non-CAE lab machines. This is most easily done through a local installation of [tethered] or on the [fsrwinxp]. For desktop computers on the college network running Windows XP, patched to the latest level, an alternative might be to install the [xpclient32|Novell Netware client]. However, the software may not run properly on your computer.

Highlighted Software

  • Norton AntiVirus - Every computer connected to the University network must have the latest security-related patches and must run up-to-date anti-virus software. UW-Madison students can stop by the DoIT Tech Store at 1210 S Dayton St. to pick up a free copy of Norton Anti-Virus, or you can download it directly. For desktop computers in the College see [mannortonav] .
  • [linoo|OpenOffice] - OpenOffice is an office suite for use on Linux that is recommended for its availability and compatibility with Office suites on Windows machines. OpenOffice has been built to have a similar look and functionality as the Microsoft Office suite. It contains programs to create Text Documents (similar to Word), spreadsheets (similar to Excel), presentations (similar to PowerPoint) and drawing program as well.
  • [securecrt|SecureCRT] - SecureCRT is essentially the same piece of software as CRT which is distributed with the University of Wisconsin's WiscWorld Suite except SecureCRT is an encrypted version that protects user passwords.
  • [app431win|SecureFX] - The SecureFX client application lets you choose between SFTP or FTP over an encrypted SSH2 connection for secure transfers, or standard FTP for non-secure transfers. It has a simple Explorer-like interface, so it's easy to learn and use.
  • [webemailfaq|Email] - There are a number of email clients available for you to read either your DoIT WiscMail or CAE account mail. Some of these clients are supported by CAE others are not. See the Computer Support [emailtools|Email] page for more details. You can read your CAE account email on the web. Go to webemail.cae.wisc.edu To read your DoIT WiscMail on line go to www.wiscmail.wisc.edu
