SMB Access
Windows
- In Explorer, click Tools > Map Network Drive in the menubar
- From the "Drive:" pulldown menu, select a drive letter to map the SMB share to. In the "Folder:" field, enter a server and a share to mount in the following format: \\server\share In this example, the Unix file server (home directories) is being mounted to Q: If you wish to mount a virtual host share from the webserver, the corresponding entry would be \\webserver.cae.wisc.edu\your.vhost.address where your.vhost.address is the fully qualified domain name of your virtual host (i.e. webserver.cae.wisc.edu). If you are not doing this from a CAE-maintained computer, be sure to click "Connect using a different user name" and supply your CAE credentials where appropriate. Once you are finished, click finish!
- If all goes well, there will be a new drive under "My Computer" (Q: in this example) which is a link to your SMB share at CAE.
OS X
- In Finder, click strong>Go > Connect to Server in the menubar or hit command-K. A window will pop up. In it, enter the server you wish to connect to preceded by smb://. To connect to the webserver to maintain a virtual host, enter smb://webserver.cae.wisc.edu . Click "Connect".
- A little window pops up while you're connecting to the server; you can ignore it.
- From the menu in this dialog box, choose the share you wish to connect to. Choose your virtual host's domain name. Click OK.
- If a dialog box pops up titles SMB/CIFS Filesystem Authentication, enter 'CAE' in the Workgroup/Domain field, and your CAE credentials in the Username and Password fields. Click OK.
- If all goes well, a Finder window containing your mounted share will pop up and an icon will be added to your desktop labeled with the share name.
