Configuring POP for Mail.App
Configuring POP
- Start Mail.App.
- From the Mail menu, choose Preferences.
- A dialog box labeled Accounts will appear.
In the category listing on the top, select Accounts.
In the lower left-hand corner of the box, click the plus sign to add a new account.
The window should look the same as the one shown below.
- Enter the following information into the appropriate fields:
- Account Type: POP
- Description: this can be anything, however for the example we have used the email address jbgood@cae.wisc.edu
- Email Address: CAE Email Address
- Full Name: this will be the name people see when you send email
- Incoming Mail Server: cae.wisc.edu
- Username: CAE login
- Password: CAE password
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): Add server smtpauth.cae.wisc.edu
- Click Server Settings and enter the following information
- Check the box labeled Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
- Authentication: Password
- Username: CAE login
- Password: CAE password
Account Information
- In the category listing right above Account Type select Advanced.
The window should look the same as the one shown below.
- Enter the following information into the appropriate fields:
- Check: enable this account
- Check: include when automatically checking for new mail
- Check: remove copy from server after receiving a message - the Faculty Support Group Recommends selecting one week but 1 day is sufficient for any purpose (CAE's backups run nightly so having it on the server for 1 day will ensure that the file is backed up on the backup tapes.)
- Check: use SSL
- Authentication: password
