Open Office / Star Office
This page will help you download and install Open-Office (It does not attempt to offer support, but links to support are provided). OpenOffice.org (or OOo as it is often abbreviated) includes word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, vector drawing, and database components. It is available for many different platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Unix-like systems including Solaris, BSD, Linux and Mac OS X. It is intended to be compatible with, and compete with, Microsoft Office, it supports the OpenDocument standard for data interchange, and is completely free. OpenOffice.org is based on the codebase of StarOffice, an office suite developed by StarDivision acquired by Sun Microsystems in August 1999. In many respects they are the same program. Downloading OpenOffice: Downloading and installing OpenOffice is quite straight-forward. Simply download the file and open it. A setup wizard will take you through the installation. Support: There are a number of office type programs available and because OpenOffice is not one of the most popular word processing programs used at the CAE we do not offer support. OpenOffice.org remains the best resource for support questions regarding this software (specifically their support page http://support.openoffice.org/index.html). Their website offers answers to a variety of issues, as well as providing a forum where you may post your own questions, and read answers to hundreds of commonly asked ones.
