Eudora can be configured to aid in the organization of your emails. With the use of filters, Eudora can automatically manage and sort emails, play a sound for a specific email message or change the priority of the email message based on the settings configured in the filter.
Below is the procedure to configure Filters for Eudora.
Configuring Eudora to Filter Mail
Creating a filter
- Tools Menu -> Filters Option brings up the filter manager. The Filter Manager manages all of the filters that have been created and allows new filters to be created.
- To create a new filter, click on the New button in the Filter Manager window.
- There are two sections that need to be configured for a filter. The first section, Match, is what the filter is going to be searched for in the email and the second section, Action, is the action the filter should take when a message is found containing the match parameters.
Match portion of the filter
- Method in which the filter is invoked and time:
- Incoming: Filtered when messages are received
- Outgoing: Filtered when messages are sent out
- Manual: Filtered when the user goes to the Special Menu -> Filter Messages
- Section Filtered:
- Header: This is the part of the email that is going to be searched. Some of the options are the following fields: To:, From:, Subject:, cc:, Reply-To:, << Any Header >>, << Body >>, << Any Recipient >>, << Personality >>.
- Pull-down menu: Options for how the word is going to be searched for. Options include:
contains, doesn't contain, is, is not, starts with, ends with, appears, doesn't appear, intersects nickname, matches regexp (case insensitive), matches regexp.
- Blank Space: Enter in the specific word/phrase that should be searched for.
-
- There is an option to make the search more specific by filling out the three options above again for another search parameter as seen below.
Action portion of the filter
- Pull-down menu: This menu allows you to specify the action that should be taken when a message is found that matches the filter. A detailed description of all the actions in the menu can be found in the Eudora help file on Filter actions. In Eudora go to Help menu > Topics. This will bring up the help file index and Filter Actions should be searched for.
- Area next to pull-down menu: The options in this area changes with the action selected. If the action of Transfer is selected, in the area will be a button to specify the folder the email should be transferred to.
-
- There is the possibility to specify up to 5 actions for each filter.
Now that the filter has been configured it is time to save it. Go to File -> Save. The filter is now configured correctly.
