CAE closes the accounts of graduating and non-continuing students 2 weeks into the fall and spring semesters. Access to ftp and email are retained for another 4 weeks until the closed accounts are deleted.
Account extensions are granted under 'special circumstances' ONLY. A letter or email is required from an Engineering faculty member on the student's behalf. Extensions are granted only one semester at a time. Most often this email/letter is sent to the CAE directors (director@cae.wisc.edu).
Before you leave after the semester and school year, it is a good idea to backup all your files on to a CD, or ftp them to another computer. It is important that you make your own backups before your accounts are closed after graduation.
NOTE: Once your account has been deleted your files can not be retrieved or restored. Be sure you have moved or copied everything you may want to keep before your account is deleted.
An email warning will be sent to your official My UW address a couple of weeks before your accounts are closed.
Graduating students can obtain a free web-based email account from the Wisconsin Alumni Association. There are also a host of services that offer free web-based email to anyone.
If you would like to forward your CAE email, please use the CAE Account Management pages to do so. Email is forwarded for no more than one year after you are no longer eligible for an account.
If you want to move your student web pages to a new location, there are numerous options available online. You can find these easily using your preferred search engine.
